I was looking for worship music resources on the internet and ran across this blog. Thought you might enjoy it. May need to pray for this guy though…

Y’know, I kind of agree with him. I am not fond at all of contemporary worship music, as it seems to struggle with itself in its attempt to match words and tune. But then, I don’t generally like *any* music with words, especially traditional Gospel…untrained voices are irritating. I guess I’m a snob that way.

Ah, you should hear those “untrained” voices at a Church of Christ. They’re goooooood. (And you know, my 5 year old can’t paint worth a hoot, but I still slap his work on the fridge and brag about it to everyone. I think God sees our worship in the same way.) For me though, I love all sorts of worship music, lead it, sing it, play keyboard, -which keeps me from going to Heaven according to many Church of Christ’ers- BUT I definitely have favorites and least favorites. One of my least favorite hymns for instance, is “There is a Fountain Filled With Blood.” I know most churchgoers “get it” and understand the significance of the blood of Christ, but I can’t get past how gross it sounds if you think about it literally….

Oh Church of Christ singing is wonderful- if you get a large enough group with just the right amount of people who know what they’re doing, it’s lovely. I meant more along the lines of Gospel Quartet. I just don’t care for it.
But then, there’s music in every genre, from Classical to Heavy Metal, that has it’s merits. Thankfully we get to pick and choose.

Thanks for the link. It was my wife that wrote the original list, not me. I grew up in a non-instrumental Church of Christ, but today I don’t believe in God at all.

I’m personally sorry to hear that, Danny because I am convinced quite the opposite is true. If the post about worship songs was meant to poke fun at worship in general, then I didn’t catch it. Like you, I grew up in the non-instrumental Church of Christ, although since they are independent churches, they can vary quite a bit. Some are legalistic and exclusive (types of churches which regularly crank out atheists) and others are far more humble and centered solely on what the Bible actually teaches instead of the traditions of men. I encourage you to continue to challenge your own world-view that God does not exist with the same open mind you used to challenge the view he does.

Sara was and still is a believer. The post wasn’t meant to make fun of worship in general. I spent time in an Independent Christian Church and I have lots of liberal Christian friends. I didn’t go directly from CoC to atheism, though I’m sure a lot do. You said, “I encourage you to continue to challenge your own world-view that God does not exist with the same open mind you used to challenge the view he does.” I think that’s a good thing to say. I intend to do so. Take care.
