I thank you so much Crazy Pastor for this awesome blog about the Sabbath. It has definitely set me free from religious bondage. For a long time I have mentally gone back and forth when thinking about this topic.
I did not know if it was right or wrong for today's time. If I had to cook or do ministry work on the Sabbath, I felt guilty, but I was not sure if the guilt was coming from God or not. I could not really find solid information about the Sabbath in the New Testament and people's advice was often conflicting, with no real evidence coming from the New Testament. I even thought that the scripture in the New Testament on this topic were contradicting each other!
I battled with this issue from a long time, and asked God for an answer. I discovered your site last night and read your blog. I can now say that I am truly set free from religious mindsets about the Sabbath.
I now realize that a Sabbath is good to take now and then for rest and to focus on God, but I no longer punish myself if I cant take a full Sabbath on a given week. I now feel free. Thanks for your ministry man. You are a powerful man of God. Thanks for keeping it real!

Jesus said in Matthew 24:20 that at a time in the future, just before the destruction of Jerusalem (many believe He was speaking of what happened later in 70 AD when the Romans destroyed the city, and many believe He was speaking of a final destruction which is yet future to us... I personally believe the latter) that they should flee the city.

He then comments they should pray their need to flee does not come while it is winter, while they were pregnant or nursing babies, or during the Sabbath. All of which would make fleeing difficult.

It was just a common sense thing to remark about in my opinion. Especially considering who He was talking to. Many in Jerusalem, at that time and at this time, would refuse or be slow to flee because of the Sabbath. Even Christians who believe in Jesus, especially those who are Jews, continue to observe the Sabbath and might hesitate. (Acts 21:20)

And Jesus remarked they should flee with no hesitation and no delay. If a person was on the roof of their house He said, they should not take the time even to go back inside for anything.

I think eating too much also damages that temple of the Holy Spirit we call a body so if smoking is an official sin, what about too much cholesterol? A better argument would be to point out that any addiction can become wrong because it controls us. I Corinthians 6:12. The problem is, we can either point fingers and condemn or we can help people get free. The Law condemned, but Christ nailed the rules and regulations of the Law to the cross and brought that freedom.

Justasking, you make a good point that posting the Golden Rule might be better than the ten commandments since the New Testament says loving your neighbor as yourself sums up the ENTIRE law. (Galatians 5:14)

II Corinthians 3:7 speaks of the law as the "ministry of death" and the law can do nothing but condemn since no one is perfect. (Romans 3:20). The Law's purpose is to lead us to Christ because it proves our sinfulness. The Law, besides rules for religious rites etc... also contained moral laws such as the Ten Commandments. Those particular laws and others like them, spelled out God's standard of righteousness. No one can live up to that standard, proving our need for a Savior.

too all the Ostriches, as to what scritpures teach that smoking is a sin... still do try the ones that teaches your body is a temple of the Holy Ghost.. and you are not to destroy, or abuse it.. in now matter what Bible you prefer too.. as far as the golden rule .. apply it here too.. and the ten commandements.. apply both of them rightfully.. http://anyonecare.wordpress.com/2008/07/03/christians-are-supposedly-to-be-different/

>> In the Protestant church only the 66 books approved by the Archbishop of Canterbury in 1885, which today is known as the Authorized King James Bible, are allowed.

sounds like someone is trying to promote his own hidden agenda again still too,

What do you think of 2 Corinthians 3:7? It seems to refer to the 10 commandments as the old law that we aren't under anymore. Obviously we can't all go out and start killing people - I think Jesus' words about loving God and loving others pretty well makes that clear. It does make me wonder why we fight about having the commandments posted in our court houses. The golden rule would be better.
